Today I excitingly took myself to the Apple Store in hope of buying a new Magic Mouse! Alas, they didn’t have any in stock, so I left with my copy of Snow Leopard instead. I felt that it was a good time to upgrade, I felt that I had waited long enough and that most of the major bugs had been fixed in 10.6.1.I sat down to install it, after having made several Time Machine backups of course, then I set about the painless upgrade. It was as simple as pressing install, then an hour later after having watched telly, i found it awaiting my password for logging in. ‘What a relief, it boots!’ I thought to myself!

After having watched my spinning colour wheel for about 5 minutes and sitting in anticipation, i started to see the GUI appear. The first thing on my list of things to do was to install the update. It still puzzles me why it wouldn’t initially allow me to open any applications, but after a few minutes of clicking away it came to life, very slowly!!!

My head fell into my hands as I found that I couldn’t open any documents, apps or anything, I could see hours of gruelling recovery in front of me. After praying it popped to life and I found a logical explanation… All of my caches had been cleared, systemwide. _Why? I have no idea but as spotlight reindexed for hours, things started to come alive.

I could really see the change with the new gamma update to 2.2, my display came alive! I began to feel the 64bit power and discover the beauties of the world’s most advanced operating system, finely tuned. So, I now feel at comfort again now that all is back to normal and I am now trusting my mac, once again.

There are so many features I haven’t yet been able to discover, but in time I will report to you all with my further thoughts!
