With speculation this week about Snow Leopard being the most powerful edition of Mac OS X yet, 10.6 seems far from ready… From the word of the web, we are being advised not to insert that copy of 10.6 yet, but to wait a couple of months – not only for developers to catch up, but also for Apple to flatten out the bugs! Apple have introduced a new kernel, called ‘Ground Central Dispatch’, which is going to control the amount of power our apps get, but in a much more efficient way.

Mac OS X 10.6 plans to make our Mac experience, much faster, and much slimmer with the new compact design, allowing more features into a smaller space. We could be freeing up to 8gb! Snow Leopard will not add many graphical features, other than a new Finder, but it allows flexible support for 64bit apps, for those of us with a Core2Duo processor. Sorry, powerpc users, this seems to be the end of the road…
I don’t know about you, but I think that I will be waiting for 10.6.1, and I will also be keeping an eye out for updates. Make sure you install them too!
