Why, Apple? It’s completely insane. Apple iPhone OS 3 enabled tethering – which is totally unexpected, and yet one feature that makes me want an iPhone – it’s enabling your laptop to connect to the 3G internet if the iPhone is connected via USB or Bluetooth. That doesn’t just mean being able to use the internet anywhere. It’s a new step for the iPhone.
But what is so wrong? AT&T, that’s what. AT&T not only had major troubles with the iPhone MMS, a feature that has been in phones for nearly ten years, but it’s shocking that all other phone companies can support MMS and tethering, and yet AT&T is still struggling along. Apple should give up the exclusivity to AT&T already – it’s not just damaging the iPhone’s reputation, but I’m sure that it’ll lower sales.
These are simple features that should be there. They should be available and ready straight away, not making us wait ages for ‘support’ – if they can’t handle all the iPhone users, drop exclusivity.
However – according to Wall Street Journal; the Digits Blog states that AT&T aren’t ready to support it. The official claim says that it’s not going to be supported; “[to] offer the best possible customer experience.”
Who knows – the US might not get tethering.
