image In a move that today shocked the Social Media crowd, the popular web service Facebook announced plans to implement the feature commonly associated with Twitter – @mentions.

It’s hardly surprising that Facebook would ‘lend’ features off of other social media platforms – Twitter recently trumped Facebook in activity, and Twitter is now more popular than Facebook. In a desperate rush to regain popularity, Facebook have slowly been copying more and more ideas off of Twitter as time progresses – the status update on the Homepage, the mixed feeds on the homepage and now the implementation of mentions.

Facebook describe this as “tagging” and a “useful way to mention friends”.

The question here is how Twitter, whom Facebook has stolen several unpatented features from recently, will react to the situation. Granted, there’s not all that much they can do.
