Well, naturally Windows Mobile has had an app store on the actual phone for quite some time, they’ve now got one on the web. Funnily enough, it’s remarkably similar to the App store – containing pretty much all the same interface with just a few graphical alterations. Hardly surprising. Notice the curvy, glossy icons, that appear on the iPhone. However, this represents something important for Microsoft, and for the Windows Mobile users – they finally have a place on the desktop/laptop to purchase applications at full internet speed, rather than shoddy mobile internet speed.
The only thing Windows can’t beat Apple with, with their version of the App store? Oh, let’s see, about 20,000 applications, that’s all. Microsoft state:
“While we’ve heard great feedback on the Marketplace experience on Windows phones, sometimes people just want the benefits of a shopping on a PC. Starting today, Windows phone customers can browse, buy and download applications online at the Windows Marketplace for Mobile site. The selected applications are delivered wirelessly to the customer’s Windows phone and install the next time the Windows Marketplace client runs on the device. This creates another way for customers to easily find and purchase applications and gives developers a whole new level of exposure.”
Do you use Windows Mobile? Will you use this? Leave comments below, if you wish.
