… I’m getting married as soon as I can. Just to have this cake. It brings tears to the eyes of a cold-hearted geek.

I dunno if you noticed, but it’s seemingly Pro-Nintendo: NES, and Wii Miis. Adorable.

Nintendo DS 2: Motion Controls, no 3G

Nintendo’s President, Iwata Satoru, in an interview, has cited plans for the Nintendo DS2. Features are HD output and Motion sensing.

While Nintendo is developing the machine, Iwata did not set a release date. Instead, he mentioned DS sales in North America reached an all time high in 2009.

The machine, likely dubbed DS2, will boast a HD screen, be able to respond to motion similar to that of the Wii or an Accelerometer. Iwata says that the device, while having WiFi, will ‘not make use of 3G technologies’. This is a shame for DS users, as it restricts the absolute usefulness of the gaming device, but we hope to see more from it soon.

Eh, if it has Pokémon, I’ll play it.

Nintendo: Flash Cart Case Lost

From MaxConsole:

We have just heard that Nintendo has today lost a major court case against the Divineo group in the main court of Paris. Nintendo originally took the group to court over DS flash carts, however the judge today has ruled against Nintendo and suggested that they are purposely locking out developers from their consoles and things should be more like Windows where ANYONE can develop any application if they wish to.
The ramifications of this are huge, as it indicates that flash carts are actually legal. Moroever, it could have bigger implications for developers and the like because Nintendo is deemed to be ‘illegally’ protecting their system by locking users out. Therefore, developers should not actually require separate development kits and should just be able to develop applications as they wish on retail versions of Nintendo’s consoles.
And on a final note, this truly was a HUGE court case, up in the main court of Paris France and seems likely to be relevant to the whole of Europe.
Essentially, if people have to ‘hack’ the system and use Flash Carts to do develop, then it’s all fine because Nintendo has left them with little other choice and the system should not be protected in such a restrictive way.
Incredible news, indeed. I’ve always admired the French courts’ support of the individual rather than the company, and this is a huge slap on the wrist to Nintendo. Not only was one of their greatest annoyances not deterred in any way, but the judge goes on to say that Nintendo engaged in ILLEGAL ACTS by locking developers out in France’s highest court!

I highly doubt Nintendo is just going to take this sitting down. In fact, it may spur them on to greater efforts to control the flash cart and homebrew community (regarding understandable yet insensible piracy claims). However, they may find the rulings difficult to contest in the future, and hopefully, other justices may use this as a precedent when the war is brought to their shores.

http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2009/263/974107_20090921_790screen005.jpgNot exactly news, but a very decent title nonetheless. It was released on the shop channel for American DSi owners a couple weeks ago, being the first title to cost 1000 points.

And it’s worth every single one.

The reason I say this, is because Thorium Wars is the first title of the DSi to make real use of its expanded RAM storage. With more memory to store cell graphics and textures, the 3D worlds in which you wage war against aliens is beautiful, diverse, AND expansive!

Nokia to N-Gage: Can We Still Be Friends?

image Nokia has officially dumped their N-Gage product from their product line. During an announcement for a new app store, Nokia reported that they are no longer planning to continue this gadget – at all. Not only that, the game store will be terminated in September 2010, and no new games can be bought. They stress not to worry, that your games will still be playable – however, they also add the removal of community (online) features for N-Gage phones in September 2010.

The problem, that the N-Gage really had from the start, was poor innovation. It wasn’t anything special – a standard tiny phone screen with standard phone graphics. Not to mention the fact it was also massive for a phone, and its screen size had nothing on the Gameboy Advance. It was definitely a stab from Nokia to try and overthrow Nintendo’s hold ont he gaming market, but with poor motive, few decent titles and poor hardware, the device failed miserably.

Actually, there’s not much more to objectively say than that. It’s new screen size is a whopping 4.2 inches, a 93% increase of the DS lite screen size and bigger than the PSP Go. It has a longer battery life as well, running 5 hours on the maximum brightness setting.

System Flaw, the game everyone should have gotten 6 months to a year ago, when the Nintendo DSi debuted in its respective countries. But let’s not fret, there’s plenty of fun to be had from System Flaw.

It was released in retailers yesterday, though this reviewer hasn’t had time to acquire one. However, a friend who acquired his early allowed me to borrow his copy to see what’s up. And what is up? Your DSi, apparently.

You play the game by holding your handheld up in front of you, where a camera gets an image and the game superimposes small thetans aliens for you to shoot. Moving the camera is beneficial for targeting aliens behind you, as they approach from all angles in a complete 360°. It wasn’t overly difficult, and the game responded well to camera movements by keeping the aliens in the same place no matter how fast I spun.

You’ll look like an idiot playing this game, rapidly turning around to get all the aliens within range to shoot. It’s a fun game to try out, but for those who still have a love for their DSlites, this game is probably not a good reason to buy a DSi if you haven’t already. However, later this year we’ll have Monster Hunter (another DSi exclusive) to look forward to, so keep your eyes peeled!
