Safari 5.0.1 is out, and it brings something previously only for developers, to front-end users – Safari Extensions. Safari Extensions is virtually the same as on Google Chrome. On launch, there are already a large amount of apps from companies like Twitter, Bing, The New York Times, MLB, eBay and others – unlike Firefox; extensions install and run instantly, and are apparently easily coded in HTML 5, CSS and Javascript.

The Extensions gallery appears similar to the App Store – where only extensions explicitly approved by Apple will get through (destroying some people’s hope for porn extensions, I guess).
